Day 1 (or 0, if you don’t get excited about travel)
Google routed us through Crawfordsville to get to Alan’s brother’s house, our Uber driver to the Indianapolis Airport. We saw later that I65 was a mess, so another indicator that Mr Google usually knows what he’s talking about.
As usual, we sailed through the airport, even though Alan still had to go back through security without shoes because one foot showed up as suspicious (not his knees!). Joyce’s knees earned her a quick pat down nothing too intrusive!
There was a storm approaching Indianapolis so the gate folks hustled to get us boarded early. We took off a little early and still got to New York about an hour early. Things were a little rocky getting out of Indianapolis, but once we reached our cruising altitude, it was pretty smooth and uneventful.

So we have 5 hours at JFK to wait for our overnight flight to Reykjavik.

We did find that JFK had a few nice lounger type seats, so we took advantage of them during our long layover. I don’t know if we actually slept, but it was nice to be able to put our feet up.

Our flight out of New York was delayed even longer and we finally left the States early on the 14th, about 12:40 or so. Our seats were near the back of the plane, but we had two seats on one side of the plane to ourselves, so we didn’t have to worry about someone climbing over us, or us climbing over someone else.
The flight was fairly uneventful, but we did have a decent amount of turbulence, especially noticeable around Greenland. Of course, this leg was overnight, so we tried to sleep, but it didn’t feel like either of us really did sleep. One of the most surprising things is that we weren’t offered any meals on this leg (maybe we really did sleep through them??). We only got some pretzels/crackers and tomato juice/water.
Needless to say, we were pretty hungry by the time we hit Iceland.
.

I’ll let the true events of the first day in Iceland go into the next post.
